Styles & Benefits

Massage has been around since the beginning of time. Each culture has developed their own style, each with it's own unique approach, but still based on the same principles and desired outcome.  Overall health and balancing of the body and it's many systems.

European or Swedish style focuses on the manipulation of the body's soft tissue including muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues.  It generally involves the use of oils or creams applied through gliding and squeezing strokes that affect the musculo-skeletal, circulatory, and lymphatic systems of the body.

The therapeutic benefits are release of chronic tension and pain in muscles, improves circulations, increases flexibility in the joints and reduction of mental and physical fatigue.

Amma is a highly refined and complex system of oriental bodywork therapy which combine oriental medical principals and the understanding of the energy channels or meridians that run through the body, in order to restore, promote and maintain optimum health through treatment of the physical body.  There are no oils involved, however there may be use of liniments on specific areas. Gentle manipulations and the use of acupressure (not acupuncture) points to restore, balance and facilitate the flow of energy through out the body.

The benefits are numerous including relief from stress and tension and muscle ache, however these therapies are excellent for medical aliments such as respiratory infections, TMJ, digestive disorders, arthritis and many more.

Soft Tissue Release Therapy is a unique injury treatment which provides relief from pain in as little as one treatment. The technique involves specific compression and active stretching. Muscle memory is engaged and relief from pain starts immediately. This coordinated movement is administered in a systematic manner resulting in a profound opening effect on all micro trauma and scar tissue. This is a very "intense" treatment which can be painful at times and is only for those who are "motivated" to get out of pain.

This treatment is for all chronic pain conditions including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Chronic Lower Back Pain, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Whiplash Injuries, Sports Injuries, and Fibromyalgia.

Paraffin Wax Therapy is a highly effective treatment that uses a process of "heat transfer". The heat that goes into the melting paraffin is released when it solidifies, transferring the heat deep in the muscles and joints of the affected area.

The benefits are fast, temporary relief from chronic arthritis, joint stiffness, sports injuries, muscle spasms and inflammation.  It also softens & hydrates the skin, while providing body detoxification and relaxation.

Reiki is a gentle, yet powerful, non-invasive, ancient hands-on healing energy technique. It is a loving, gentle, totally safe, natural and nurturing way to facilitate deep relaxation and stress reduction. It promotes inner peace, tranquility, and self-harmony. Working in harmony with any medical treatment or procedure, Reiki can enhance all health care methods by activating the body's own natural healing processes.

Reiki is effective for healing on the physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. It promotes health, well-being and personal growth.

Pregnancy Massage is similar to the European style, yet it is specifically designed to help ease the pain and stress a woman's body goes through while carrying a baby to term.
It promotes relaxation, soothes nerves, relieves strained back and leg muscles.

Facial Massage is a luxurious non-invasive hour of pampering relaxation that improves the appearance of the face. It is a great stress reducer and is effective enough to coax tired, sagging muscles back into their youthful condition. The Facial massage is a support system that can help make surface wrinkles less visible, slow down the formation of new ones and keep the facial muscles from succumbing to two of the face’s most formidable enemies: gravity and time. After the hour is up you can visibly see a healthy glow and feel that your skin is softer then ever before! For those seeking a natural alternative to cosmetic surgery, there is the Facelift Facial which offers the relaxation of the facial massage combined with a facial exercise program.

Questions & Answers

A MASSAGE! Who has time for a massage?"
There are kids to pick-up from school and drive to karate class, dinner to cook, a house to clean and, oh yeah, the boss wants the Kellerman proposal revamped and on his desk by 9 am tomorrow.  Who has time? Whether it's a 15 minute chair massage in the office or a one hour full-body massage at a local center or in the privacy of your own home, You do!  The benefits you receive from taking the time out to care for yourself override any excuses you can come up with.

"Only the rich and well-to-do get massages."
Research shows that regular every day people are getting more massages and report that they feel more relaxed, experience relief from aches and pains and a general overall feeling of calm.  In today's world of ever growing stress and pressure women are starting to surpass the men in stress related illness.  Massage Therapy is one important aspect of maintaining a healthier lifestyle, both mentally and physically, by promoting circulation of the blood and lymph, relaxation of muscles, relief from pain, and restoration of metabolic balance.

"Where can I get a massage?"
Your massage session can take place in the privacy of your home or at the therapist's.  If you choose to go to the therapist's home you will be greeted by a warm, comfortable, quiet room filled with soft music and candle light.  If you prefer to have the therapist come to you, the therapist will arrive with a massage table and music and setup in the room of your choice.

"What type of education does a massage therapist need?"
While requirements vary from state to state, New York state requires the therapist complete a certain number of course hours and sit for a state licensing board exam. The therapist's course of study includes anatomy, physiology, pathology and various massage techniques.

"What happens during a massage?"
First you will fill out a medical history and discuss what the desired outcome of your session is with the therapist.  Then he/she will leave the room allowing you to undress in privacy. You may decide on the amount of clothing you wish to remove. You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable and only the area being worked on will be exposed. A typical full body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck and shoulders.  The relationship between therapist and patient is one of confidentiality and trust.  You work together to relieve the tension, aches and pains while balancing the body's systems to maintain a healthy and happy life.

"Are there any restrictions?"
There are certain physical conditions that may require a physicians approval before treatment can be given.  These conditions may include high blood pressure, heart conditions, recovery from a recent trauma and pregnancy.  While a therapist is trained to work with many physical aliments she/he is not a doctor.  If there is any question in your mind you should always check with your physician first.

"Will I be sore afterwards?"
Depending on the type of massage you receive and the how tight or sore your muscles are before you receive the massage.  There may be some initial discomfort if you are already sore before you start however it should only be momentary.  If you are feeling pain during the massage then you should tell the therapist.  You and the therapist need to communicate to bring about the best results.

"How long will the effects of the massage last?"
Immediately after your massage you will feel relaxed, revitalized and invigorated.  Depending on the type of massage and the physical state in which you started out in the effects can last for several days.  However if you have a chronic problem it may take several weeks before results become apparent.

"How often should I get a massage?"
That's up to you and your personal situation.  A massage once a week will help you deal with the stress and better face the daily complications of life.  Massage on a regular basis bolsters the body's immune system and helps enhance your health.  If you have a chronic condition or medical aliment your therapist will recommend a specific treatment schedule.
