About Infant Massage

Infant Massage is an ancient tradition of many cultures throughout the world which has been rediscovered in the U.S. Clinical evidence now shows that loving, touching and nurturing contact between infant and care giver has a positive impact on subsequent development. Many studies reveal the benefits of positive contact as an integral part of a baby's early life, and the unfortunate results when early attention is lacking. Massage is one of the most pleasant, easiest methods of providing this early positive contact.

Studies conducted at the University of Miami Medical Center show that premature babies who were massaged every day developed more rapidly, both physically and neurologically.  Many newborn nurseries are now adopting Infant Massage as a regular part of their parent education programs, to help promote well-being and the loving bonds between parents and their babies.

The Importance of Bonding

Infant Massage includes the critical elements of bonding  eye-to-eye contact, skin-to-skin contact, smiling or other facial expressions, soothing sounds,  cuddling, smell and interaction.  Another important benefit is the quality of  closeness between parent and baby that Infant Massage brings about; these benefits are life-long.  Parents find that daily massage and the interaction it provides, is a wonderful way to stay "in touch" with their growing child.

Massaging your baby is a tactile translation of love, security and physical comfort - a dance between you and your baby. You will be using the same strokes that generations of parents all over the world have used, yet you will be able to massage your baby as no one else can!
